Fifteen months after its acquisition by Specific Media, a preview of MySpace’s new makeover has been unveiled by Justin Timberlake — who took an ownership stake in the social network. The video doesn’t go into a lot of detail, but it hints at:
- Users log in via Facebook or Twitter and the option to bring photos or other information with them.
- Status updates look similar to the mobile app Path, with photos largely displayed and user comments showing up underneath.
- The music component including ways to browse albums, find popular songs and artists and more.
It also points to a new MySpace URL, New.MySpace.com, which enables users to give their email address for an invite to the new service. It has yet to be seen if MySpace is building its own music service or if will partner with streaming services such as Spotify, Rdio or Rhapsody.
I know a lot of people will be rolling there eyes about the news and I’m not sure if I can handle another social media platform to update and maintain but I’m excited to see what they can offer and hope it does offer something of need.
