Depth of Speed: Tale of Three Cars
HBTV: Depth of Speed – Tale of Three Cars from HBTV on Vimeo.
I respect anyone that love’s what they do. Whether it’s a hobby or a job or if you’re lucky enough. Both! This is a nice little watch on one mans passion for cars by HBTV.
Depth of Speed was born from a desire of story, travel and a love of anything automotive related. Next year my wife and I will be taking to the streets to uncover and document the greatest stories from the automotive world. From coast-to-coast and from top to bottom, finding the best stories will take the highest priority. Every time I meet someone new or attend an event I’m amazed at the depth, passion and love that the automotive world brings. Depth of Speed is just that – an in-depth look at these stories. There is something about motors and machines, that to an outsider looking in, would make us seem plain crazy.
We have begun the process of outfitting our trusty Scamp trailer to traverse the entire country. Known affectionately as a fiberglass egg, our Scamp will be our home for one year of our lives. At only 13 feet long it will make for a cozy year.
Clocking off for the day
The days are faster and the nights even longer in Hong Kong. It’s not unusual to finish the average day until around 10pm. That’s what’s great about this city is the fact the city never sleeps so even when you have a late one working there’s still plenty of people out and plenty of restaurants open to eat. My head is swimming at the moment with four major projects on, so it’s nice to finish the day with a great Japanese dinner at SUSHI SASE which specialise in Kaiseki cuisine accompanied by a bottle of sake and a few Sapporos.
Gears of War 3: OG Slick “Getting Up” Video
LA street artist Slick talks applying his graffiti and artwork all over the environments in Gears of War 3. It’s such a cool opportunity for an artist to be able to bomb a computer game. It’s interesting to hear about his process behind the colours, different materials and layers to each piece of work for the game.

News Corp. / Murdoch Scandal
I have to be honest that I’m not an avid up-to-date news follower. You’ll usually find me following more cultural news, but the News Corp Scandal did catch my attention. Not only because Rupert Murdoch is an Australian born, international media mogul, but I have always been sceptical of broadcast news and the power to manipulate information given to the public. This interrogation (grilling) of James (son of Rupert) and Rupert Murdoch just puts into perspective of the scale of severity of this investigation. I don’t want to harp on about this so if you’d like more information on the subject. Google any of the UK online news sites for more information.

Great track off The Cool Kids new album to keep you cool this summer.
NIKE CHOSEN: JUST DO IT
Nike are definitely going for their piece of the extreme sports market with this video. It’s impressive. My only criticism would be, even though it got me pumped it was almost boarder line trying too hard. I guess you can when you have the budgets Nike has. Either way it’s an awesome vid. Nike have never done things half-ass.

The art of being able to convey a message in as few elements as possible is something I admire in creative work and strive for in my own work. The poster is by Christian Jackson.

The Devil’s Bible
I try to keep an open mind to all ‘the unknown’, I don’t believe in one particular thing other than that of good and evil. This was an interesting watch, because what really grabbed me was not the religious aspect of ‘The Devil’s Bible’, but the artistic side to it. It reminded me of one of my visual diaries. I loved the type setting, the illustrations, how the ink was made, the paper stock used and the dedication of years to create it. It became a very inspiring watch. Thanks for the find Sonya
Morning Engergiser
Living in Hong Kong reminds me a lot of when I lived in New York. Everything is in walking distance or at worst a short CHEAP taxi fare away. I’m lucky that my apartment is so central in Hong Kong which means I’m spoilt for choice of restaurants, bars, clubs, shops and most of my friends all live in the same area, so it becomes like one big neighbourhood. Lately I’ve got in the habit every morning of going to my local juice bar (literally next door to my apartment block) to get a ‘Morning Energiser’ which is Orange, Apple, Carrot and Ginger while I check my daily emails.

RZA was in Berlin at Bread & Butter Berlin trade show earlier this month to showcase his latest collaboration with WeSC. I friend of mine Vic runs the WeSC store in Causeway Bay Hong Kong, so I’m keen to get down there to test these headphones out. Check out this interview from HBTV with the man RZA.

Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan will always be remembered as part of one of the deadest USA Olympic teams know as the ‘Dream Team’. Absolute legends.
Ken Block unveils new multi-hoonable Ford Fiesta HFHV
Ken Block has got to be one of the most envied people in the world. Not only is he a professional rally racer with Monster World Rally Team, but he’s also a co-founder of DC-Shoes which is one of the most popular brands for skateboard, snowboarding, motorcross…. Pretty much all extreme sports.
His latest project has been the Ford Fiesta HFHV which is a hybrid function (not like a Prius) but is adaptable for use in each of the three types of rally competition: stage rallies, rallycross and Gymkhana.
The car is based on Block’s Ford Fiesta RS WRC, albeit with a 2.0-liter turbo four capable of producing as much as 600 horsepower and 665 pound-feet of torque, depending on configuration. And configurability is what this car’s all about. By swapping the wheels and tires and adjusting everything from the suspension to the engine mapping, the HFHV can be quickly set up for any of these three functions. Believe it or not, Block’s Monster crew says it can even be street-legal, depending on the setup.
The video is very cleverly executed to show you exactly what modifications are made for each race type.
