FLWRPT & THE CASUAL PRESENTS…RELATIONSHIP RAPS Compilation

Words by: Devin “PAN” Barrett of “The Casual”

Many a relationship has been lost to the temptations of summertime. With the coming of this season and its sun rays, clothing becomes optional, sexuality is in abundance, and extended daylight leads to balmy nightlife, often at the expense of a long-term love. On the flipside, summertime is also when love connections are made. Nothing says summer like a humid day, and locking eyes with your dewy skinned soulmate for the first time, even if it only lasts for a season…or a night.

With this theme in mind, and with summertime officially upon us, Flwrpt & The Casual presents…RELATIONSHIP RAPS. This mix is a collection of ’90s hip-hop tracks, some obscure some familiar, all dealing in some way with the relationships between women and men. With each song, we tried to capture a distinct ’90s sound and essence, that somehow never crossed into mainstream consciousness, but played a large role in crafting the energy of the era.

We hope you enjoy…and stay tuned for further collaborations from Flwrpt and The Casual…

Steve McQueen’s 1953 Siata 208/S Spider for Sale

As cool as the latest Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s are. There’s still something about classic sports cars that speaks style and taste. Steve McQueen was know for these two things. So I can imagine this car will draw a lot of potential buyers and spectators. The cherry red Siata has recently been completely refurbished, now sporting a 2.0-liter V8 producing 115 horsepower. I’m sold off the photos.

Kanye West – SXSW 2011 Performance

Some of the best performances I’ve seen on one stage. Kanye West invited his G.O.O.D. Music family and close friend Jay-Z to do what they do best. The likes of Kid Cudi, Mos Def, John Legend, Pusha T, Big Sean CyHi Da Prynce, Mr. Hudson were all there.

Cassie + Blank Magazine

I’m not going to pretend like this is one of the most amazing photo shoots or I’m really impressed with the clothing. The truth is, I’ve always had a crush on Cassie and I like a girl that can pull these looks off. Cassie was shot by photographer duo Gomillion and Leupold.

Bape Store New York Closing

When I first heard while in New York early last year that the Bape store was closing on Greene St in Soho. I thought it can’t be serious. I know Bape has lost a lot of it’s original street credibility over the last few years, but I still thought there was a huge following with the continued support of some of the biggest international music artists around ie. Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Lil’ Wayne just to name a few.

But I was wrong.

It’s been announced that the store will be closing at the end of the month. This may not come as a surprise to some after hearing the majority of the company was sold to the owner of I.T. for only a few million. Bape is now going through some drastic changes. I’ve always been a fan of the brand and Nigo even though I don’t wear as much as I used to. I appreciate his business model and hope this isn’t the end. Good luck!

Check out Kid Cudi’s performance at the store.

Chad Muska Arrested For Graffiti

Pro Skateboarder Chad Muska was first detained by security at the Roosevelt Hotel around 2AM. Law enforcement sources tell us Muska was seen spray painting his name on a nearby Coffee Bean.

While security guards waited for LAPD officers to arrive — Muska demanded the guards let him go, and called them “ni**as” several times … including one instance in which he said, “Fu** all these ni**as right here.”

LAPD eventually showed up and arrested and booked Muska for felony vandalism — and our sources say Muska had tagging materials on him when he was arrested.

We got shots of Muska’s alleged handiwork at the coffee shop — “Muska”‘ — and also at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theater … “Muska kills.”

I’ve been a fan of Muska since I started skateboarding back in high school and since then watched him continue to become a brand himself. Including his work with Supra Footwear. After watching the video of his arrest, he looks completely wacked out and says some pretty inappropriate things to the security and paparazzi. Let’s hope this doesn’t have too big a back-lash on him. We don’t need a Mel Gibson of the skateboard world.

WUGAZI ‘13 Chambers’ Album

Wugazi • 13 Chambers by WUGAZI

A year’s worth of cutting up every imaginable Fugazi record and trying out every Wu-Tang acapella they could get their hands on, resulted in Wugazi: 13 Chambers (a must listen for anyone who even looked at a skateboard in the 90’s).

LASCO Los Angeles Shoe Company

LASCO Brand Introduction from LASCO on Vimeo.

As an avid sneaker and shoe collector. Sometimes it’s nice to see a film like this that reminds you of not only the story of the artist behind the shoe but also the craftsmanship and WHERE it’s actually made. I don’t mind paying a little extra for something with a little extra love put into it. I tip my hat to Greg Salas, founder of LASCO.
