THE ART OF CHALK LETTERING
Dana Tanamachi is a graphic designer and custom chalk letterer living in Brooklyn, New York. You must give her props for using no reference and all freehand. It’s already got me thinking what project I could use her for.

Nujabes Documentary: An Eternal Soul Trailer
An Eternal Soul Trailer (Nujabes Documentary) from Abe Spiegel on Vimeo.
Here’s a preview trailer of an upcoming film which documents the late great Japanese producer known as Nujabes. I first heard about him when animation Samurai Champloo came out. (It’s still one of my all time favourite Japanese cartoons) The documentary talks about breaking barriers and innovating new techniques and sound elements. Join the official facebook page to find out when it drops. I will post some of his tracks in the next few days.
Steampunk Artwork
So what is ‘Steampunk’ you ask?
Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s. Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy.
The illustrations remind me of the machinery you find in Studio Ghibli movie ie. Howl’s Moving Castle.

Stussy recently released a series of videos featured within the brand’s World Tour back in 2006. This collection of artists are some of the first guys to create the collaborative movement between street art and corporate companies. It’s bitter sweet to hear their stories of how they started out and how ‘mainstream’ has changed the game for good and bad. Worth a watch.
Bape + Transformers ABC Convoy
Bape and Transformers have released the Bape + Transformers ABC Convoy. The set consists of a Transformer truck robot and trailer, featuring an A Bathing Ape camouflage pattern all over. It’s not the coolest thing I’ve seen, but an interesting collaboration all the same.

GLOBE ‘YEAR ZERO’ Movie (Trailer)
YEAR ZERO TRAILER from GLOBE on Vimeo.
Very well shot and leaves me wanting to see more. YEAR ZERO is a modern take on high performance surfing set in a post-apocalyptic world, reminiscent of Mad Max or an HG Wells novel. It tells a story of a band of renegade surfers, including Dion Agius, Yadin Nicol, Nate Tyler, Taj Burrow, CJ Hobgood and Damien Hobgood, on a road trip through the apocalypse in search of waves, women, and good times. The film’s original soundtrack by BLACK MOUNTAIN, whom VICE MAGAZINE has called, “One of the best rock n’ roll bands of our time,” creates a sonic landscape that fully delivers the immersive experience that director Joe G envisioned for the film.
PAS House: The Skateable House
This is true meaning of living and breathing skateboarding.
The PAS House, to be built in Malibu, CA, is the ultimate rebuke to the notion that play shouldn’t occur indoors, simply because every surface in the house is skateable. PAS stands for Pierre Andre Senizergues, founder and CEO of Sole Technology, parent company of etnies, Emerica and eS. He came up with the vision for the house and got together with artist Gil Le Bon Delapointe to creat the design — a modern single family home and skate ramp in one — and eventually passed the project on to architect Francois Perrin, who is now finalizing plans on the house. Together they’ve created a skateboarder’s paradise, where everything from the kitchen counter to even the bed can be skated. Currently a full-scale, 753.5-square foot prototype of the house’s living area is on display at La Gaite Lyriqe in Paris. The exhibition will run through August 7th.

Blast by Guy Mishaly
An explosion created these stools by Israeli designer Guy Mishaly. Each Blast stool is made by detonating a charge inside a steel blank, ripping legs out of the sides so that every one is unique. No material is lost in the explosion and each stool has the same weight before and after detonation.
Landscape & Scenery Inspiration
I can’t get enough of these amazing illustrations/paintings. I’ve always been a fan of fantasy since I was a kid and I think there’s a part of me that likes to believe there’s places like this in the world. If you would like to see more examples or find out about each artist. Click here
Alila Villas Uluwatu – Bali
Bali has never been at the top of my list of destinations I want to visit. I’m not sure if it’s because I was lucky enough to spend most of my weekends surfing the east coast beaches of Australia or because I only knew of Kuta beach which seemed to be a dodgy hub for western tourists. Either way, over the past few years I’m seeing more and more amazing resorts and villas popping up that just make too hard to resist. Alila Villas Uluwatu is the lastest piece of paradise to lure you over to Indonesia. Looks like a great place to take a lady friend.
Overview:
Alila Villas Uluwatu is designed by award-winning Singapore architectural firm, WOHA, which has built a global reputation for innovative design for projects in tropical environments earning it the Royal Australian Institute of Architect’s (RAIA) International Award at the 2006 National Architecture Awards in Brisbane for their House on Rochalie Drive in Singapore, and Architectural Review MIPIM future projects award for The Met, a high-rise condominium in Bangkok, to name a few. Since 1989, directors Wong Mun Summ and Richard Hassell have been involved in the cutting edge of Asian hospitality design, having worked on many well-known hotel and villa developments.
Richard Hassell speaks of this eco-friendly project …”We are very pleased that Alila Hotels have embraced the Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) principles, and we are using many ESD measures including local materials, water conservation with soaks and rain gardens and recycling with grey water systems, using local plants from the special Bali Savannah ecosystem on the Bukit, which are being raised in a nursery on site to encourage local bird and animal life, heat pumps for water heating, salt water pools – among many others. The resort is registered for Green Globe certification, and will be the first hotel in Bali to get the highest level of certification for ESD. As it is built into the resort from the beginning, there will be a strong combination of the built fabric and on-going operations side working together to reduce the long-term ecological footprint of the resort.”
The design of the interiors is completely integrated with the architecture, as the design flows from inside to outside. All the materials are locally sourced. These beautiful local materials are environmentally sound and support the local communities.
