K01 by Marc Newson for Pentax K01 by Marc Newson for Pentax

Australian designer Marc Newson talks about his latest project, the K01 camera for Japanese brand Pentax. I’m not a huge fan of the camera design but I like some of his points about the ‘yellow’ edition and embracing the materials used.

Stacking Green House in Vietnam

The architects at Vo Trong Nghia Co., ltd. completed a modern residence in Saigon, Vietnam, for a thirty-years-old couple and their mother, in the shape of a tube, 4m wide and 20m high. Entitled “Stacking Green“, it stands out due to its original facades, featuring a large number of terraces, each adorned with flower pots. Here is more from the architects: “The front and back façades are entirely composed of layers of concrete planters cantilevered from two side walls.

The house structure is a RC frame structure widely used in Vietnam. The partition walls are very few in order to keep interior fluency and view of green façades from every point of the house. Natural ventilation through the façades and 2 top-lights allow this house to save a big energy in a harsh climate in Saigon. Concerning these ecological approaches, we referred a lot to the bioclimatic principles of traditional Vietnamese courtyard house“”. The green façades and roof top garden shelter the family from polution, noise and sunlight.

Kanye West to Present Ready-to-Wear Line at Paris Fashion Week

Karla Otto, Kanye West’s PR agency, confirmed to WWD that West will show at 9.30 p.m. on March 6. The venue has yet to be confirmed. I know he was hit pretty hard by the critics at his last show, but I appreciate that he has interests in pushing his love for fashion out side of the hip hop scene. I wish him good luck.

Whitney Houston Sadly Dies (1963-2012)

MTV Reports –

Whitney Houston, a multiplatinum pop/R&B singer who ruled the charts for decades beginning in the mid-1980s, has died. Houston was 48. While details such as cause and location of her death are still unknown, Houston’s publicist Kristen Foster confirms to The Associated Presson Saturday (February 11).

Houston had recently staged a comeback in 2009, after a tumultuous divorce from singer Bobby Brown in 2006 after 14 years of marriage. The ex-couple have a daughter together, Bobbi Kristina. Brown and Houston battled substance abuse issues throughout their marriage, and their travails were well-publicized. But in recent years, Houston had made attempts to revive her once thriving music career only to find that her show-stopping voice had gathered some rust.

At her height, Houston was the music industry’s reigning diva, releasing chart-topping albums well into the late 1990s, and earning her place as one of the best-selling artists in the world. Her unparalleled voice and All-American beauty propelled her onto the silver screen as well, with roles in the “The Bodyguard” and “Waiting to Exhale.” The soundtrack for the former film yielded a string of hit singles and broke myriad chart records as well.

Houston, the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston and the late John Houston, was discovered by Arista Records honcho Clive Davis in the early-1980s and he would go on to guide her career to the tune of 170 million albums sold. The iconic singer’s hit songs — from “The Greatest Love of All” to “I Will Always Love You” — are now radio staples and firmly entrenched in the pop music canon.

Her influence can be heard on a generation of young singers who cite her as an inspiration, from Mariah Carey, Brandy and Monica to Christina Aguilera and Beyonce.

Olympus OM-D E-M5 Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera

Making a dramatic entry drenched with water droplets, Olympus finally introduced the OM-D E-M5 Digital Camera last evening. Its the first camera from Olympus’ new OM-D line, a series with lineage as far back as the 1972 Olympus OM-1, then the thinnest SLR camera available. Fashioned out of durable magnesium alloy, the mirrorless camera is the latest to join the ever growing Micro Four Thirds offerings from Olympus. And while it is more expensive than the Olympus PEN Series, the E-M5 also offers more feature. A 16.1-megapixel Live MOS Sensor, working in tandem with the TruePic VI image processor, offers utmost picture clarity even at low-light situations. The sensor also allows a maximum ISO range of 25,600 for a faithful color reproduction and an auto focus system capable of continuous shooting at 9 frames-per-second. One other unique feature is it’s 5-axis image stabilizer, a world’s first. In living up to its retro form factor, the E-M5 employs a new electronic viewfinder with a refresh rate of 120fps. Plus, a tilting 3-inch touchscreen OLED display for less strenuous viewing.

Comes in silver or black, the camera is virtually dust and water proof, a testament to Olympus’ craftsmanship. Fully adoptable to all Micro Four Thirds-compliant lenses and additional accessories to come, Olympus is pricing the E-M5 at US$ 999.99 for body only, US$ 1,299.99 with M.ZUIKO Digital ED 12-50 mm f3.5-6.3 EZ lens and US$ 1,099.99 with M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-42 mm f3.5-5.6 II R lens. The camera will be available for purchase in the month of April.

  • 16.1-Megapixel Live MOS Sensor
  • Olympus TruePic VI Image Processor

  • 5-Axis Image Stabilizer
  • ISO 100-25,600
  • FAST (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) AF System Capable of Continuous Shooting at 9fps

Hasbro – Nerf Lazer Tag – To Use IOS & Augmented Reality For HUD Function

Lazer Tag is getting an overhaul for iOS generation — Hasbro just announced that its 2012 Nerf Lazer Tag blasters can be combined with an iPhone or iPod touch to provide a heads-up display, an increased firing distance of 250 feet, and augmented reality for a “single player” experience. The guns themselves now include a slot for you to drop your iOS device in, and once you’ve downloaded the free app, you can use it to keep track of your gear, power levels, and use it to start and host multiplayer games with up to 23 other players. As a nod to current FPS shooters, the app includes a leaderboard, keeps track of your user profile and stats, and also features unlockable rewards like a more powerful virtual blaster. Of course, the game can be played without having to add an iOS device that adds several hundred dollars to the price, but what fun is that? Nerf’s new Lazer Tag blasters will be available on August 1st, and sell for $40 individually, or $70 for a set of two.

Vittra Telefonplan School in Stockholm

In connection with the establishment of a new Vittra school in Stockholm, Telefonplan, Rosan Bosch has created the school’s interior with spatial divisions and significant custom design. The interior takes it point of departure in Vittra’s pedagogical principles and serves as a pedagogical tool for development in the everyday of the school. Instead of classical divisions with chairs and tables, a giant iceberg for example serves as cinema, platform and room for relaxation, and sets the frame for many different types of learning.
