[BONUS] The Kids Are Bored
WWD: The Adventures of André Saraiva
What’s the most cherished item in your wardrobe?
A vintage American pilot jacket that I found at the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Los Angeles, like, 15 years ago.
My friend Gildas Loaec from [music and clothing label] Kitsuné just released the same jacket, only with different cotton linings. We also designed a line of boxer shorts in matching fabrics.
Which is your favorite underwear label?
I don’t wear underwear. I’m French—I like to smoke cigarettes and get naked.
Some people liken you to Fonzie of Happy Days. Is he a style hero of yours?
Yeah, I used to wear a Fonzie T-shirt just to make fun of myself and my greasy hair. I like the Fifties. I like Marlon Brando in The Wild One.
Tell us about your latest fashion projects.
Well, there’s the luggage line for Globe- Trotter [due in stores this spring]. It’s handmade, very old-school. I travel a lot, so I know a lot about good suitcases. I’m also going to design some limited edition sneakers with Nike that will only be available in my nightclubs. A long time ago, they did a pair of shoes for Studio 54, so it’s kind of a nod to that.
And your book?
It’s going to be like an atlas: all the continents of the different things I’ve done since I began doing my graffiti at age 13. The idea is for it to be ready for next Christmas. It will be published by Rizzoli.
Are you still active in the art world?
I’m preparing an art show for June, for a fun new gallery called The Hole, on Bowery in New York….It will be my first solo show in America. There will be some of my old works but mainly a lot of new sculptures….I’ve made these buildings that are like little fantasy clubs, each with its own lighting and sound, that you can’t really get into because they’re too small—clubs for ants. There will also be a series of my Mickey Mouse sculpture with the big penis. I don’t know if that will go down well in America—the big Mickey. It’s going to be fun.

Timmelsjoch Expierence Pass Museum by Werner Tscholl
The new Pass Museum on the North Tyrolean side juts out like an erratic boulder into the South Tyrolean side, underlining the cross-border nature of the Timmelsjoch Experience. The “Ice Cave” inside the museum pays tribute to the pioneers of the High Alpine Road and their remarkable accomplishment…

Nike ‘Cortez Classic OG Leather’
Nike has reissued the Cortez Classic OG in a colourway similar to the Cortez’s worn by the Forrest Gump. Very cool and def on my list of buys.
Objectified Documentary
Objectified is a feature-length documentary about our complex relationship with manufactured objects and, by extension, the people who design them. It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It’s about the designers who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability.
Through vérité footage and in-depth conversations, the film documents the creative processes of some of the world’s most influential product designers, and looks at how the things they make impact our lives. What can we learn about who we are, and who we want to be, from the objects with which we surround ourselves?
Read director Gary Hustwit’s post about the film. Objectified is the second part of a three-film “design trilogy” by Gary Hustwit, details on the third film will be released soon.
Objectified had its world premiere at the SxSW Film Festival in March 2009, and is currently screening at film festivals, cinemas, and special events worldwide. The film will be available as a DVD and download soon. Join our mailing list or subscribe to our RSS feed to stay informed of new announcements.

Bape + Star Wars Release
Every week I get a call or Facebook message from my uncle back in Australia with a list of new Bape gear about to be release that coming Saturday. Lucky for me I have few good mates who work at the store in Causeway Bay, so a quick phone call and the gear is put aside for me and no lining up out the front of the store. On this occasion with the release of a collaboration with Star Wars on a number of different apparel. Bape went all out with an appearance from a few of the Star Wars characters including Darth Vader. So of course being a Star Wars fan and a geek streak running through me. I had to get a photo.
