Immortals Trailer

Visionary director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) transports us to a mythical world of treachery, vengeance and destiny in Immortals, a stylish and visually spectacular 3D action adventure. As a power-hungry king razes ancient Greece in search of a legendary weapon, a heroic young villager rises up against him in a thrilling quest as timeless as it is powerful. The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his murderous Heraklion army rampage across Greece in search of the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake, and it seems nothing will stop the evil king’s mission. As village after village is obliterated, a stonemason named Theseus (Henry Cavill) vows to avenge his mother, who was killed in one of Hyperion’s brutal raids. When Theseus meets the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra (Freida Pinto), her disturbing visions of the young man’s future convince her that he is the key to stopping the destruction. With her help, Theseus assembles a small band of followers and embraces his destiny in a final, desperate battle for the future of humanity. Immortals is produced by Gianni Nunnari (300), Mark Canton (300) and Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter).

2011 Nike MAG: The Full Story

Sneaker enthusiasts and fans of the 1989 movie Back to the Future II had to wait almost 23 years for their Nike MAG to drop. After all the video and event hype, an extensive behind the scenes video is presented here. Several of the personalities involved in the whole project go on the record from both Nike and Back to the Future’s teams including Tinker Hatfield and Mark Parker. The Nike MAG has now obviously been made available for collectors through eBay but this video hopefully answers any questions many might have regarding the process behind thegreatest shoes never made.

Life+Times: Watch the Throne – Ricardo Tisci Interview

Life+Times: Glad we connected. Took a while to get through to you. How’s it going?
Riccardo Tisci: I’m good. Crazy moment. But it’s all under control. I’m back from the holiday. And [Givenchy] is launching the new collection, plus the new men’s couture coming up, but having a great time. And you?

L+T: We’re good. No complaints. Where were you for August?
RT: I went to Ibiza. I was supposed to go to Turkey. But, I had so much fun in Ibiza that I decided to spend the entire month in there. I love music and I have lots of friends who DJ, and it’s one of the best places for music. So, I spent the entire summer there meeting new people and DJs and having a good time.

L+T: How was it?
RT: I spent time with my friends a lot. We would spend time together, and relax, and do yoga, chill, and go out on the boat. And then, we went wild. Especially on Monday night. Do you know the club DC10? I love it there.

L+T: I don’t. What’s it like?
RT: It’s one of the clubs in Ibiza. I’m not super old, I’m 37, but it used to be much more free and much more underground. I used to go there when I was young and since then…in the last ten years or so, once things got much more “luxury.” This club has managed to stay, umm, ghetto. DJs start there when they are young. On Monday nights, it’s 7am to 2am. It’s this big garage, and it used to be after hours. Now, everyone goes and has the best time. So Monday night, it was like going to the church. Every Monday a new DJ. Everyone I knew was going to be there. I really love music and DJs. So, I spent a lot of time there.

L+T: Tell us a bit about coming up with the artwork for JAY Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne.
RT: I have huge respect for these two. Since I was a child, I’ve always been obsessed with rap and hip-hop. I met Kanye when he came to my show and we developed a relationship. And then I was approached about doing this collaboration, which was a big project. Two big names approaching a designer was a pretty big deal. I have been asked before in my life to collaborate with musicians [Ed note: Tisci has designed for Madonna in the past], but only on costumes and clothing. But in some ways, I didn’t want to do it because I didn’t feel ready. Of course, fashion is expression. Like art, like music, it’s an emotion. So, it’s more about mood and emotion and not just the clothing. When they first asked me, I was really scared. And then, we began the discussions about movies, DJs, general things. So, I felt that the collaboration was necessary. This is one of the best collaborations I’ve ever done. I always want to do the best and respect the people around me. But at the same time, it was very tough.

L+T: What inspired the art? What influences did you draw from?
RT: The funny thing is, growing up, I’ve always loved JAY and Missy Elliot. But for me, this type of music always represented things like women, sex, diamonds, fur, cars and luxury. But when it came to the artwork, it was really important to me to represent the pure genius inside of them, and in some ways, go back to the roots – the real rap, which has been more experimental in the last few years. I also wanted to showcase how proud they are to be Americans. I really wanted to make them happy with the outcome. I decided on the color gold, which to me, represents luxury. It has always been about rap, including “the good life.” I really wanted to represent that in a color. And then, I wanted to represent America. And since they are both very handsome men, I wanted to touch on elements of sexuality and their strong personalities, showing off an animal dialogue, because I am obsessed with animals. And then, incorporate religion. And it didn’t have to be Catholic. It’s more about a point in life. For me, religion can be abstract. There are also elements of freedom as well.

Cristina Penescu Drawings

Her family relocated to California when Cristina was a year old. Since early childhood, her passion for art and nature was very apparent. As a child she loved to collect books about animals and spend her time outside in nature. Cristina has experimented with a variety of mediums and styles and recently has made the transition to realistic wildlife art, which she feels has always been her true calling in life. She enjoys painting a wide variety of wildlife subjects, however wild canids, especially wolves, hold a special place in her heart and have been a recurring theme in her art since childhood.

T-world 7: New York tee-ser

New Format. New Direction. New York. For the seventh issue, the only T-shirt journal in existence – known as T-world – travels to the Empire State. Milton Glaser’s tourist campaign logo (I love NY) turned souvenir T-shirt graphic sums up the feelings T-world has for the most ambitious city of them all. The city has been responsible for the birth of hip-hop, the rise of graffiti as an art form, and famous artists like Andy Warhol. In fact, it was Warhol himself who inspired the idea that a single, ordinary product like a simple T-shirt (he used a Campbell’s Soup can) could generate the topic of art and conversation. 200 pages. Hardcover edition.

Fantastic Man Magazine: Mr. Raf Simons

The new, 14th issue of FANTASTIC MAN features the phenomenal fashion designer Mr. RAF SIMONS on the cover. Photographed at his home in Antwerp, RAF is seen wearing select pieces by RAF SIMONS and JIL SANDER – both brands he designs for. Other interesting men profiled in this issue include: the fabulous magician Mr. DAVID COPPERFIELD, the interior-decorator extraordinaire Mr. RICKY CLIFTON and the hailed London-based chef Mr. YOTAM OTTOLENGHI. Furthermore, FANTASTIC MAN explores new grounds in CHINA through a 37-page fashion reportage inspired by the stylistic characteristics of the men of Beijing. The remainder of the 268-page issue is full of absorbing stories, photographs of some gloriously useless PAPERWEIGHTS, style investigations, tips and tricks for the upcoming Autumn and Winter seasons, and a delightful new format in which we have conducted conversations with KIM JONES, DIRK SCHÖNBERGER and JOHNNY MARR, the guitarist of THE SMITHS. This new section is aptly titled ‘THE CONVERSATIONS’.

Honda Civic Type R MUGEN 2.2: Even More MUGEN Power

The Civic Type-R was one of my favourite cars growing up. One because the Civic was my first car and two because the Type-R models from Honda are still one of the best engineered cars in their class. NOW they’ve teamed up with Mugen Power I can just imagine how great this car would be to drive.

An output of 260 horsepower allows the new  Civic Type R  2.2 to be a true “rice rocket”. With MUGEN Euro leading the charge, a typical Honda Civic Type R had its engine upgraded with 30% more power and torque. Along with the increased horsepower, torque is now 240Nm at 6,000 RPM. With motorsport standard suspension, brakes, and an updated body kit to reduce drag, the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN 2.2 might just be the fastest road legal Honda Civic thus far. Plans for production are still in the works.

Nike: “It’s About Time”

If all the signs are correct. This next launch from Nike could be one of the most highly demanded products on the market for sneaker heads and collectors worldwide. Read the lead up story from FreshnessMag below and if the clues and these pictures aren’t enough of a hint of what’s to come. I’m disappointed in your cultural knowledge…. So just watch the following video post to see what all the hype’s about.

FreshnessMag – There were no indicators, no hints, even our Nike hosts answered our inquisitions with smiles and simple responses, “You’ll see”… Some hours later and still woozy from jet lags, we arrived in Los Angeles for a “secret event”. But not just any event, one that will include Nike Vice President of Design and Innovation, Tinker Hatfield, at its Keynote address. Yet, everyone hushed up at our inquests at L.A. too. Things became somewhat obvious a few minutes ago when we entered our hotel rooms. In each accommodation, a tricked out amenity package with a sleek aluminum shade tagged with “It’s About Time” at the ear piece. Along side it, a Apple iShuffle with message from Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown saying “If my calculation are correct, for the next 24hrs you are gonna see serious stuff!” Things are becoming clearer now…
