KAWS Wraps MTA Subway Train Inside and Out for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

How the tables have turned…

KAWS was started out a former graffiti artist turned gallery artist, enemy to the MTA, now has an entire train officially covered in his art, riding through the city.

New York artist Kaws surprises us every time. Months ago first news came out that he would be the 5th living artist (the others being Takashi Murakami, Tim Burton, Jeff Koons, and Tom Otterness) to have a balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. But it all goes a little further – Kaws also created artworks to wrap a full MTA Subway Train inside and out in his art, to promote the parade.

Rihanna by Mario Sorrenti for GQ December 2012

Our favourite tabloid it-girl graces the 12/12 cover of GQ magazine and obviously does not disappoint. Writer Jay Bulger got the chance to be a part of her entourage and writes up an interesting take on what I assume is an average night out for the Barbados beauty. Starting with dinner at Emilio’s Ballato to a penthouse at the Hotel Gansevoort and then shutting it down at Griffin Nightclub (coincidentally her booth neighboured Chris Brown and his entourage), RihRih and her crew clearly know how to do it right.

J. L. Lawson & Co. : The Cell 6061-T6 Machined Survival Kit

The Campaign:

A year ago we came up with the idea to machine a water resistant container to be used for a basic survival essentials kit.  After manually machining one we found that it would be way to costly to do so we shelved the idea.  We dusted off the idea recently and decided to get some CNC quotes to have The Cell manufactured instead of manually machined by us.  We love this piece and think that you will too but we don’t have the capital to meet the minimums required for CNC production.

The achievement:

Our main objective is to get this piece in your hands at a reasonable price.  Whatever disaster or apocalyptic scenario (we lean towards zombie apocalypse obviously) you might believe in, everyone should be prepared. The Cell is the perfect way to get started and looks pretty amazing at the same time.  Help us help you.

Poolside: Seasons Change (Fall/Winter 2012 Mixtape)

“Seasons Change” is a new mix for crisp Autumn days as Winter approaches and the evenings get shorter and shorter. It’s a collection of melancholy tunes we put together while driving through the Northeastern States this past October to fit the moods that come with the changing of the seasons.

Thanks for the find Chris L.

Recycled Can Sculptures by Makaon

Japanese artist Makaon creates fantastic pop culture artworks using recycled cans.

“…Macaon used a healthy mixture of both recycled beer and soda cans. This is quite apparent in pieces like the Mario character, which looks to be crafted from mostly Coca-Cola cans with a mixture of both Coke zero and the classic good stuff. ”
