Jojo’s Sriracha, Handcrafted, Small Batch Chili Sauce Made in Brooklyn

“Food is naturally different. So, I just really want to honor that variety and let the chili peppers do the talking.”

Meet Jolene Collins, the founder and artisan behind Jojo’s Sriracha in Brooklyn, NY. Jolene is obsessed with sriracha. She discovered the chili sauce at age 15, when, in a hunger frenzy, she coated her tuna sandwich and potato chips with the unfamiliar condiment. When she recounts the story, you can see she remembers it as if time stopped. It was a moment she’ll never forget. A moment that maybe, just maybe, foreshadowed her destiny.

So, enjoy Jolene’s spicy little story about the unlocked potential of the sriracha you know and, probably, love. She’ll have you convinced that her artisan sriracha, is so much more than the average cock sauce.

Thanks so much for supporting food. curated. and small artisans! Happy Eating!

KAWS Wraps MTA Subway Train Inside and Out for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

How the tables have turned…

KAWS was started out a former graffiti artist turned gallery artist, enemy to the MTA, now has an entire train officially covered in his art, riding through the city.

New York artist Kaws surprises us every time. Months ago first news came out that he would be the 5th living artist (the others being Takashi Murakami, Tim Burton, Jeff Koons, and Tom Otterness) to have a balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. But it all goes a little further – Kaws also created artworks to wrap a full MTA Subway Train inside and out in his art, to promote the parade.

J. L. Lawson & Co. : The Cell 6061-T6 Machined Survival Kit

The Campaign:

A year ago we came up with the idea to machine a water resistant container to be used for a basic survival essentials kit.  After manually machining one we found that it would be way to costly to do so we shelved the idea.  We dusted off the idea recently and decided to get some CNC quotes to have The Cell manufactured instead of manually machined by us.  We love this piece and think that you will too but we don’t have the capital to meet the minimums required for CNC production.

The achievement:

Our main objective is to get this piece in your hands at a reasonable price.  Whatever disaster or apocalyptic scenario (we lean towards zombie apocalypse obviously) you might believe in, everyone should be prepared. The Cell is the perfect way to get started and looks pretty amazing at the same time.  Help us help you.

Billionaires’ basements: A new billionaires’ craze for building elaborate subterranean extensions is making swiss cheese of London’s poshest streets – but at what cost?
“The past five years have seen sprawling underground leisure lairs excavated across west London, from Knightsbridge to Belgravia, Fulham to Notting Hill. They contain playrooms and cinemas, bowling alleys and spas, wine cellars and gun rooms – and even a two-storey climbing wall.”

Casio G-Shock GLS-100

G-Shock has released the new GLS-100 winter sport watch. Designed for winter sports, and the extreme elements that come with the territory, the watch makes use of some very rugged components to ensure that it keeps ticking away even as the mercury dips down to -20 degrees Celsius. A low temperature LCD will continue to display the time and date where a normal LCD would freeze. The watchband utilizes Cordura and synthetic leather, ensuring that the watch will always stay strapped on. Available in olive, khaki, matte black and white colorways, the GLS-100 will be available starting this month with a Japan release followed later by a global release. I’ll be picking one of these up before snowboard trip to Canada next year.

Gianfranco Zaccai: Great food should be like great design

About Why Design
At Herman Miller design is the language we use to ask questions and seek answers to the problems our customers face. The design process is a journey into the unknown—or as George Nelson once quipped, “I have never met a designer who was retained to keep things the same as they were.” Before we decide what we do and how we do it, we like to begin by asking the question “Why?” In Why Design, a new video series, we explore the world through the eyes of our designers, and share something of why we value their point of view.

Gianfranco Zaccai
Gianfranco Zaccai enjoys a design problem and a good meal with equal gusto. Born in Italy, Gianfranco co-founded Continuum, the Boston design firm in 1983. He has designed medical equipment, consumer goods, and retail environments. His passion for research led to the innovative and award-winning Compass system for Herman Miller Healthcare in 2011.
