THE ART OF CHALK LETTERING
Dana Tanamachi is a graphic designer and custom chalk letterer living in Brooklyn, New York. You must give her props for using no reference and all freehand. It’s already got me thinking what project I could use her for.
Tree Hotel in Harads – Sweden
I love these designs and has inspired me to build my own one day or at least go to Sweden to experience the tree-top hotel room by Swedish architects Cyrén & Cyrén. You access the room via a bridge leading from the hilly forest to an entrance on the roof. The Cabin hangs from the trees and has a roof terrace overlooking the forest. This project is one of five rooms of the Tree Hotel in Harads, northern Sweden.
‘Paranormal Activity 3’ Trailer
I was surprised when I saw they’re was going to be a third follow up to the footage-style Paranormal Activity movies. This time we return to the year 1988 when Katie and Krista are children to reveal the reason behind the demonic force that was tormenting them. You see the two girls chanting Bloody Mary which might be a clue. I love a good scary movie and I’ll admit the first one made me sh#t my pants, but I’m not holding my breath on this.

Nujabes Documentary: An Eternal Soul Trailer
An Eternal Soul Trailer (Nujabes Documentary) from Abe Spiegel on Vimeo.
Here’s a preview trailer of an upcoming film which documents the late great Japanese producer known as Nujabes. I first heard about him when animation Samurai Champloo came out. (It’s still one of my all time favourite Japanese cartoons) The documentary talks about breaking barriers and innovating new techniques and sound elements. Join the official facebook page to find out when it drops. I will post some of his tracks in the next few days.
Lions Loungin’
This is not a retouched photo. I repeat. This is not a retouched photo.
Taken in June this year during a game drive at Nakuru National Park in Kenya. Rounding a bend on the track I came upon not one but seven of these magnificent young lions draped across the branches of an Acacia tree. What a privilege for me to have witnessed this amazing moment. Photograph by Mrs. Wai Chun Turnbull.

Steampunk Artwork
So what is ‘Steampunk’ you ask?
Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s. Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy.
The illustrations remind me of the machinery you find in Studio Ghibli movie ie. Howl’s Moving Castle.

Stussy recently released a series of videos featured within the brand’s World Tour back in 2006. This collection of artists are some of the first guys to create the collaborative movement between street art and corporate companies. It’s bitter sweet to hear their stories of how they started out and how ‘mainstream’ has changed the game for good and bad. Worth a watch.
Nothing beats a Sunday of R ‘n’ R before you start the week…
In Hong Kong, sometimes it’s hard to find timeout. Work days are longer and the weekends tend to be taken up with drinks, dinners and late afternoon breakfasts. So when you get a few hours free on a sunny day, there’s nothing better than getting poolside. The weather over the past few days has been perfect, so instead of having a big saturday night and a sunday recovering in bed. I caught up on some work last night and spent the day sitting by the pool at Four Seasons reading magazines, sketching in my pad and chatting to friends back in Australia. Now I’m ready to start the week!
‘I’m Feeling Lucky: The Confessions of Google Employee Number 59’ Book
Written by Doug Edwards, who was Google’s marketing and brand management director and the 59th employee, I’m Feeling Lucky: The Confessions of Google Employee Number 59 is an inside look at working in the world’s largest online search engine. He reveals how working in a massive non-hierarchical company is like, and the laid-back nature of Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
Having joined the company before it exploded into the size it is today, Doug Edwards is able to bring you back to the beginning where Google was just starting to establish itself. The book ultimately is a revealing memoir of a massive corporation that doesn’t necessarily go by the book, which is perfect for satiating our fascination with Google.
I’m Feeling Lucky is available on Amazon for USD$16.44.
R.I.P. Amy Winehouse (1983-2011)
It’s a sad day to see that Amy Winehouse has died at such a young age of 27. I’ve been a huge fan of her music for years and has always been someone I’d loved to have seen live. I was lucky enough to meet her a few years ago, while staying at the Soho Grand in New York City. It was winter time and we seemed to keep bumping into each other while we were both having a cigarette. She had obviously been fighting some personal demons over the years and unfortunately got the better of her in the end. My prayers go out to you Amy and your family and your music will live on.
The Telegraph –
Miss Winehouse, who came to fame with her debut album Frank in 2003, was found at her flat in north London this afternoon, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.
They say that they received a call at 4.05pm calling for help for a woman in Camden. Paramedics were called to the scene, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death is “unexplained” but not thought to be suspicious, according to police. Sources have told the Sunday Mirror that an overdose of drink and drugs is the suspected cause of death.
Last month, Miss Winehouse cancelled her entire European tour, after an on-stage breakdown in Serbia. A statement on her website said “Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances. Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen.”
Friends of the singer had reportedly voiced fears that she was drinking herself to death, according to the Sun. They said: “Her drinking is totally out of control. Amy is constantly out of control on vodka.
In 2007 she married Blake Fielder-Civil, and the pair had a sometimes violent relationship. Fielder-Civil was imprisoned for conspiring to pervert the course of justice in 2008 and the pair divorced in 2009.
Bape + Transformers ABC Convoy
Bape and Transformers have released the Bape + Transformers ABC Convoy. The set consists of a Transformer truck robot and trailer, featuring an A Bathing Ape camouflage pattern all over. It’s not the coolest thing I’ve seen, but an interesting collaboration all the same.
