Asos Headquarters by MoreySmith
MoreySmith overhauled interiors as Asos doubled the space it uses at the art deco Greater London House, formerly the Black Cat Cigarette Factory in the north London borough of Camden. The fashion company originally occupied the second and fourth floor in part of the building, but took over the bottom three storeys of the same portion to form a coherent office space. “It was the first time the company has been on adjacent floors, so we wanted to connect them all together visually,” MoreySmith design director Nicola Osborn told Dezeen. A large Asos logo hovers above the reception desk on the ground floor, positioned in front of vertical slats wrapped in material used for the brand’s clothing designs. “The initial brief was to create brand identity as soon as you came into the ground floor,” said Osborn. “The fins are behind the reception are all Asos materials.”
Pirelli Previews its 50th Anniversary Calendar for 2014
Known to many as the fifth largest tire manufacturer in the world, Pirelli is perhaps even more well-known outside of the automotive industry for its infamous annual calendar. Nearly impossible to obtain – just 20,000 copies are printed per year, each going to those on an exclusive VIP list – the famed tradition has previously featured the work of photography heavyweights like Brian Duffy, Herb Ritts, Annie Lebovitz, Mario Testino, and Steve McCurry while a bevy of super models have graced its glossy pages. Now, as the calendar gets set to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2014, Pirelli has teamed up with Patrick Demarchelier and Peter Lindbergh to shoot the commemorative edition of the publication. Completed in New York City this summer, the upcoming release features the likes of Miranda Kerr, Helena Christensen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, Alek Wek, Isabeli Fontana, and more. Enjoy the behind-the-scenes shots above and stay tuned for a full look at the calendar, which is set to be unveiled in Milan later this fall.

A Closer Look at the Concepts x ASICS Gel Lyte III “Three Lies”
Can you introduce yourself and what you do?
My name’s Deon and I work for Spungie. Aside from that, I handle buying duties, manage the shop and assist with creative from time to time.
What’s the story behind this collaboration?
The story is more so a direct interpretation of an iconic statue based in Harvard Yard. The statue is labeled “Three Lies,” which coincides with the ASICS Gel Lyte III model we chose.
How would you describe Concepts’s approach to footwear design?
We always search for true inspiration and not just a reason to throw colors on a shoe. At the same time the project should always be beneficial to both parties involved. We’ve turned down our share of collaborations for the sake of it just not feeling right for us.
Why did you guys settle on Statue of the “three lies” concept?
We always prefer to have an idea to base our concepts off of. This statue represented more than just colors to us. The actual “Three Lies” aspect of it tied everything together for us. We also knew the colors and blocking would be easily translated through design.
What are your thoughts on the current trends in footwear design?
You mean recycling ideas on other models? We strictly focus on the road ahead so that’s really of no concern to us.

LA to SF in 30 Minutes with Elon Musk’s High-Speed Solar-Powered Hyperloop
South African entrepreneur Elon Musk recently outlined plans for a revolutionary new public transit system. The co-founder of PayPal, SpaceX and Tesla Motors dubs this newest venture Hyperloop, a next-gen high speed train designed to rocket passengers to destinations nearly 900 miles away in half an hour — including Los Angeles to San Francisco in half an hour.
It does so by propelling aluminum pods down a pair of steel tubes at 800 miles an hour using external linear electric motors positioned every 70 miles to maintain their speed. To compensate for the inevitable air friction that occurs at such speeds, the tubes would use standard compressors to ensure a low-pressure environment while an electric compressor at the nose of each pod offloads pressure toward the back.
As shuttling non-astronauts down a tube at near sonic speeds could raise an eyebrow with regards to safety, the Hyperloop would space each pod five miles apart to allow for collision-free emergency braking, meaning a total tube capacity of 70 pods at a time.
While the proposed $6 billion project is far from being adopted at present, Musk is apparently cooking up plans for an even better design and plans for a fully functional prototype for demonstrations purposes. For those who think they have helpful suggestions, he has also offered up his plans as an open design.

To mark its 260th anniversary, and to continue this fruitful collaboration, the heritage brewery has now asked six select international artists to treat the Warsteiner bottle as their canvas!
The artists involved and on display: Stefan Strumbel, 123Klan, Aaron De La Cruz, Brooke Reidt, INSA and Nychos.
For a short time only, all Warsteiner Premum Verum cases will include one of the six different artist bottles. Only available in Germany!

Baitogogo by Henrique Oliveira at Palais de Tokyo
A twisted entanglement of tree branches appears to grow organically from the beams of Paris’ Palais de Tokyo museum in this installation by Brazilian artist Henrique Oliveira. To look like a impossibly tangled Gordian Knot. The large installation was created from reclaimed tapumes – a plywood material traditionally used in Brazilian towns to construct the hoardings around construction sites. Oliveria collects the discarded tapumes from the streets of São Paulo, where he both lives and works.
Her: A Spike Jonze Love Story
Set in Los Angeles, slightly in the future, “her” follows Theodore Twombly, a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet “Samantha,” a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other. From the unique perspective of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze comes an original love story that explores the evolving nature—and the risks—of intimacy in the modern world.
